Crusader Safaris consists of two main hunting areas and authentic safari camps, the Umkomaas Valley Conservancy (Umko) in Kwazulu Natal and the Baviaansriver Conservancy in the Eastern Cape. Vast, wild, free range areas with a variety of game and hunting experiences for all African hunters.
What sets our authentic safari camps apart?
For many years we have set ourselves apart from other South African outfitters by hunting these free range areas for animals indigenous to them, thereby offering a real hunting experience.
An essential aspect of any African safari is the camps, and Crusader Safaris has two main camps. Our luxury tented camp in the Umko and our traditional African lodge in the Baviaansriver. Both are truly African, complimenting the vast free range areas we hunt and enhance the feeling of a real African safari experience.
Umkomaas Valley Tented Camp
Set on the banks of the Nkobeni River where it joins the Umkomaas River in Kwazulu Natal, this luxury tented camp is reminiscent of the tented camps of ‘old’ Africa. Nyala, Wildebeest, Southern Greater Kudu and Zebra all graze on the banks of the river and regularly come down to drink.
Six luxury en suite tents are tastefully positioned along the river, with a central dining area, lounge and a large kitchen where game hunted on safari are prepared for all meals. There are indoor and outdoor showers, hi-speed internet, heaters and electric blankets for cold nights, with fans for the warmer months.
The Umko tented camp lends itself to serenity and excellent bird and animal life along the river. So whether you are hunting hard for that exceptional trophy quality animal or just along as a non-hunting observer, it will be an experience you will remember for a long time and always look forward to coming back to.
Our traditional lodge in the Baviaansriver is set high up on a ridge overlooking this large conservancy in the Eastern Cape. Six luxury thatched chalets are tastefully located around the central lodge and trophy room all with great views of the hunting area. As with all our camps, the experience is enhanced not only by hunting good quality trophy animals but by enjoying the sampling of different species of game meat all prepared by our expert chefs. This is a crucial aspect of the safari, good food, good company in a real safari environment are all very important to us.
The lodge has hi-speed internet, daily laundry, skinning and field preparation facilities in close proximity, all while boasting world-class views of the conservancy.
Crusader Safaris camps add that extra touch
A stand out competitive advantage is that Crusader Safaris has always had the vast free range areas that we hunt. Something not often discussed is the authenticity of the hunting camps. So we recommend experiencing the tented camp in the Umko, and then the traditional lodge in the Baviaans, which can either be on the same trip or as a return trip. This gives the hunter a diverse experience or something new and different to look forward to on a return trip. It has always been vital to us at Crusader Safaris that the camps reflect real African hunting, that they are central in the areas we hunt and that you can be hunting right from the camp. Less travelling leading to more hunting is all based on the locality of the camps and diversity of game in the area. Crusader Safaris ticks all these boxes, and your experience will reflect this.
