Umkomaas Valley Conservancy

The Umkomaas Valley Conservancy is free range hunting at its best. Record book Southern Greater Kudu, Nyala and Cape Bushbuck can be hunted in their indigenous environment and unfenced.

The Umkomaas valley conservancy is free range hunting at its best, a truly unique environment where you can hunt all the spiral horned species and common game, unfenced and where they are indigenous. This 120 000 acre conservancy in the province of KwaZulu Natal only 1.5 hours from Durban offers truly a truly authentic African safari experience.

The thick acacia forest, riverine bush and rolling hills make up the terrain in this area. Early mornings will be spent at a good vantage point glassing the valleys below as the sun hits the slopes. Southern Greater Kudu, Nyala and Bushbuck are the main species in the conservancy, great genes, lots of cover, water and food ensure really good numbers and trophy quality of all species indigenous to the area.

The camp in the Umko is a luxury tented camp on the bank of the Umkomaas river. All rooms are en suite, have electric blankets and both indoor and outdoor showers. The atmosphere in the camp is reminiscent of African hunting camps of days gone by with all the luxuries expected after a long day hunting. The camp has 6 luxury tented chalets.

Meals will be prepared from game shot on the hunt, prepared in traditional African style over open fires and served with fine South African red wines. At Crusader Safaris we like to sample as much of the game meat taken on the hunt. What is left is given to the trackers and staff. Crusader Safaris also supports a small rural school not far from camp, any meat not used as well as supplies and cash donations are all given to the small school to support and educate them regards the benefits of hunting and conservation.

The Umko is a easy 4 to 5 hour drive from the Stormberg and 6 hours from the Baviaansriver. This scenic drive down the east coast of South Africa is a very easy and enjoyable drive should you choose to hunt two areas.
