Travel Arrangments
The best and most efficient way to book your flight is from the USA. There is a daily direct flight from Washington DC, Atlanta or New York to Johannesburg South Africa. We will advise you before booking your ticket where to connect to once in Johannesburg, it will usually be Port Elizabeth or Durban.
When booking your ticket you can do so online at www.flysaa.com the South African Airways online booking center. This is a very efficient way of booking a ticket. We have lots of experience in this regard and will help you through the process.
Alternatively we recommend the following travel agents. Both have worked extensively with us in the past and have good experience in African travel.

South African Customs
Clearing customs with a firearm is not difficult. Provided you are in possession of the correct documentation it is a 20 minute deal.
We would recommend that you use Henry Durheim who runs a company called Rifle permits and is based in Johannesburg.
Most our clients use Henry for a quick and trouble free customs clearance. Six weeks prior to your departure you will need to supply him with the following information:
- letter of invitation (supplied by Crusader Safaris)
- proof of rifle ownership
- copy of passport
- return airline ticket
- SAP520 (temporary import form will be completed by Henry)
You can get in contact with Henry through his website www.riflepermits.com where all the above requirements and information are provided in greater detail.
They will pre-register your firearm with the SAPS, meet you at arrivals, escort you through customs and put you on your connecting flight.
The cost of this service is $90, money well spent making this previously time consuming exercise simple and fast.
Medical
Crusader Safaris hunts large concessions in South Africa. These areas are wild and remote yet we still have the luxury of first world well equipped medical facilities in close proximity to all our camps and hunting areas.
South Africa’s doctors and medical facilities are known around the world for their excellence. We are very fortunate to have the luxury and security of this close to our hunting areas.
With the above in mind it is important to have comprehensive medical cover when coming on safari to South Africa. With this cover you will be guaranteed private care in the case of an emergency.
All the areas that we hunt in South Africa are Malaria free. There is no need to take malaria prophylactics when hunting South Africa with Crusader Safaris.
Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus shots can be taken but are not mandatory.
